Power of Attorney UAE – Overview

Power of Attorney UAE services allow an individual or company to authorise another person to act on specified legal or commercial matters. The UAE Ministry of Justice provides digital drafting and authentication for general and special powers of attorney and other deeds. Wills follow a different legal route. For eligible non-Muslims, the DIFC Courts Wills Service provides registered Will options covering UAE assets and/or guardianship. Documents intended for use outside the UAE may also require MOFA attestation, consular legalisation or destination-country formalities after notarisation.

Processing Time

The Ministry of Justice currently lists a 1-day duration for its digital writing and authentication service. Will drafting and registration timing depends on the selected route, drafting complexity, appointment availability and whether a registered Will draftsman or additional legal advice is required. Overseas-use documents may take longer because attestation and consular steps are separate.

How the Process Works

  1. Define the purpose, powers, assets or guardianship instructions.
  2. Choose the correct legal route: MOJ/notary POA or appropriate Will registration route.
  3. Draft the document and verify identities, names and scope.
  4. Complete electronic/notarial signing and official authentication or Will registration.
  5. If the document will be used abroad, complete MOFA/consular legalisation where required.
  6. Keep the final authenticated/registered document and update or revoke it if circumstances change.
